11-5-08.  THANK YOU.   THANK YOU.   THANK YOU.   THANK YOU.
This has been a great experience to share with many new and old friends and associates and, of course, my family.   As East Anchorage decides for Bettye Smith, Harry Crawford, Sharon Cissna and Pete Petersen to represent their interests I hope for them all GodSpeed, wisdom and the guiding hand of our Heavingly Father as they go forth.  And to the many citizens who encouraged me, helped me and voted for me, here is a bouquet of heartfelt thanks.  -dh
11-4-08 (11 a.m.)  Yesterday our wonderful volunteers were the only ones at some of our sign waving locations.  This morning our volunteers were on our two chosen intersections like bees on honey: Northern Lights-Boniface and Piper-Tudor.  Great volunteers like Jim Drake who helped me resolve all the problems of the world as we waved.  Dale Edin, Steve Wright and Chuck Becker joined my son Ben and Dan on the Chevron corner as the younger two chanted encouragement to folks headed to work with antimated smiles and gestures.  Then there was Kelli Hallgrimson dancing to IPod tunes and Mary Pignalberi humming and waving.  Jason Hofacker and his volunteers were wonderful, as were Bill Noll, Frank Appel, Todd Schnurr, Steve Pratt, Brad Keithley, Roger Marks, Luz Chamberlin, Mark and Kerry McNab, Ben Grenn, Robin Phillips, Rick Braun with his 3-wheeler motorcycle and my wife Nancy.  Laura Wilson came by and wished everyone well, a particular honor coming from a multi-tasker who is KAFC's Radio Personality, KATB's Office Administrator and Program Director for KCFT (Photo, with me).  And we will never forget our Barristas, Brandy Burton and Karen Relph (See 10-14-08 entry below)!  We saw other candidates, Gene Brokaw with his wife, Margit, and Harry Crawford and opponent Bettye Davis and I do believe that even among spirited competitors there can develop on sub-freezing mornings a sort of camaraderie that is palpable and somewhat comfortable, difficult to describe.  It might have to do with shared misery, shared aspirations and shared presentiments.  More later....  -dh
Grace Jang by Dave Harbour11-4-08 (6 a.m.).  Have to run to Boniface and Tudor now (6 a.m.) for sign waving with volunteers but will try to post progress later today.  Yesterday, we had a great time greeting motorists and I had the pleasure of meeting another great broadcaster, Grace Jang from Channel 11 (Photo-l) who may be posting part of her interview today.  Join us this afternoon at the Boniface location if you with to help with one last sign waving!

11-2-08.  Channel Two's Leyla Santiago (Photo-r) visited with our colleague House Candidate Gene Brokaw but also collected footage that briefly illustrates our wonderful Saturday Campaign Town Hall events at Radio Espresso for the last two months.  (Her full story)    *     The Anchorage Daily News piece by Don Hunter appeared today.  Don always does a good job but I also want my readers -- especially Dan Fagan and the anonymous supporter who wrote two months ago that while she supported me she insisted I trim my eyebrows -- to know that the photo used does not reflect my improved public image.  Also, my supporters should be confident that while Don couldn't have included the whole interview, I did give good detail on investment climate, gas pipeline, South Central gas and electric supply, fiscal planning, education and other issues important to Alaskans.
11-1-08.  It was a great LAST Saturday at Radio Espresso.  Over a four hour period several dozen volunteers gathered to review issues, waive signs and greet passers-by for free hot dogs, hot chocolate, pop and general family fun!  Photos: Rada Khadjinova (r) and Luz Chamberlin (l) have become two of our most accomplished sign wavers.  See the Saturday Photo Album Here.

10-31-08.   Tyonek is a little appreciated Alaska Native Village located on the roadless coastline across from Anchorage.  Wednesday, I had the honor of attending a briefing at the invitation of Tyonek Native Corporation COO Marc Stemp, conducted by CEO Tom Harris (Photo-r) and consultant, John McClellan.  Tyonek is little appreciated in the sense that its leaders are carefully pursuing a course of 'enlightened self interest business strategies' that produce important synergies for the citizens of South Central Alaska, and, indeed,Tyonek CEO Tom Harris by Dave Harbour 10-28-08 for the entire state.   Its land holdings position it to be a facilitator if not an actual participant in up to $18 billion worth of projects over the next 20 years.  Some of the projects could assist Alaskans in meeting their power demands, such as a possible $3 billion Mt. Spurr Geothermal Power project, a nearly $2 billion Chakachamna Hydropower project and a Coal to Liquid & Power Generation project ($12 billion).   Earlier, we suggested that the State might have been wiser to consider investing in a power project like Chakachamna so that utility costs could be improved over decades, not just subsidized for one year.  -dh

10-30-08.  Last week, the Anchorage Daily News interviewed me for a story expected to run last Sunday.  I provided them with campaign photos, including the one below of Andy Sorensen and his Leitra (brand) velomobile built in Copenhagen, Denmark.  While the paper has not yet run the story on my campaign, it did produce a story in this morning's paper by Debra McKinney which properly recognizes Andy for his initiative.   Andy is advertising our campaign, as you see above, though the Daily News story photos do not include the advertising.     *      The Alaska Senate Democrats and their supporters recently held a fundraiser for my opponent and used the proceeds to produce an innacurate and viscious attack on my background.  My campaign has been dedicated to a positive approach since day one and we are still on that positive course.  I'll give you more on that soon....

10-28-08.  Volunteer Opportunities Abound this Last Week.  Please call 227-7110 to be a part of this unusually effective, volunteer-rich campaign!
10-27-08.  Today, I'll worship at my own church, Faith Christian Community, on Wisconsin.  Last week, I had the pleasure of attending New Hope Baptist Church.  While Pastor Clifton Gay wasn't there, Pastor Wilbert Mickens gave an inspiring sermon in keeping with, "Men's Loyalty Commitment Sunday" (I'll always remember the difference between putting something down (as a child would) and putting it away (as a responsible man would).   Next Sunday, I plan to attend Anchorage Baptist Temple.
10-26-08.  Yesterday we had a great mini-town meeting at Radio Espresso from 10-Noon.  Over 25 friends/constitutents/volunteers came in to talk about issues, make contributions, plan future events  and sign parental consent and I/M petitions.  Photo above: Marc and Rachael McNab are dedicated supporters!
DAVE HARBOUR - KAKM DEBATE - 10-08
10-25-08.  TODAY: Join us again at Radio Espresso for free coffee, hot chocolate and conversation about Alaska's future: AT NORTHERN LIGHTS AND BONIFACE!  (Photo: KAKM debate last Monday, watch it here.)
Anchorage Chamber of Commerce Candidate Day - Dave Harbour
10-20-08.  Today we have campaign appearances at the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce (Photo-above: volunteers Mary Pignalberi and Robin Phillips helped greet Chamber members) and KAKM (8-9 p.m., Channel 7).  Also, see Dave's responses to an ANCSA Regional Association Questionnaire, here.

10-17-08.  Last Night Was Great.  But the day began with an outstanding presentation at the Resource Development Council for Alaska, with the Heritage Foundation's Rob Gordon, discussing the dangerous direction in which the EPA is leading the country with its proposed Co2 Rules.  At 6:30 p.m. I had the honor of joining other candidates at an Anchorage School District Forum (Audio.  Photo above, with a group of the ASD's School Business Partnership Students who cheerfully and professionally volunteered their services as ambassadors for the evening.)  Later, several of us appeared again at the Northeast Community Council meeting to answer structured questions (Audio).

10-16-08. Tonight I have the pleasure of participating in several appearances: Anchorage School District (6:30, Begich Middle School), NE Community Council (8 p.m., Community Center, Debarr/Muldoon), and Airport Heights Community Council (later, Out North).  I am in process of providing you with a more in depth report on an earlier ASD event and a Scenic Park Community Council discussion with my opponent's staff.  Sorry for the delay, but they are coming!   Meanwhile, enjoy the photo above; last Saturday Andy Sorensen began advertising for our campaign and attracts admiring looks wherever he goes: rain, shine, snow or wind!   Lest anyone doubted, our campaign is at the very forefront of alternate energy--in the course of advocating for all energy sources that together provide maximum energy independence for America!    -dh

10-15-08.  Members of these organizations, directly and indirectly, provide most of the private sector jobs in Anchorage.  The future of our state and our East Anchorage families in large part depends on the prosperity of these industries.  Please review the candidate survey of these organizations, here:

Alaska Cruiseship Association, Alaska Miners Association, Alaska Oil & Gas Association, Alaska State Chamber of Commerce, Alaska Support Industry Alliance, Alaska Travel Industry Association, Alaska Trucking Association, Associated Builders & Contractors, At-Sea Processors Association, Council of Alaska Producers, Resource Development Council  for Alaska.

Dear East Anchorage Neighbors:

Thanks for visiting my website.  I hope you'll join my mailing list by emailing me and telling me a little about your interests and concerns: dave@harbourak.us.

I love our city, having lived in East Anchorage for most of the years since moving here in 1971. I've lived on the APU campus, on Foothill Drive, at the Greenhouses of Foxhall, on Grand Larry, and now in Kensington Park.

As most of my friends and family know, I've been a giver and volunteer for most of those years, first working with Lanie Fleischer to establish a Cheney Lake park years ago, then with the the Anchorage Chamber (Chairman), the Heritage Land Bank (Commissioner), Saturday Market (Organizer), Anchorage Downtown Partnership (a founder), Eisenhower Alaska Statehood Foundation (a founder), the United Way (Vice Chairman), Alaska Council on Economic Education (Chairman), Hugh O'Brien Youth Foundation (Chairman-Ak), the Alaska Press Club (President), Arctic Power (a founder), the Boy Scouts of America (Board), the Civilian Advisory Council to the Alaska Command (Board) and more ....

I've also been involved nationally in areas benefitting Alaska: the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) Gas Committee Co-Vice Chairman); the Western Conference of Public Utility Commissioners (Gas Committee Chairman), the Consumer Energy Alliance (Board) and the American Bald Eagle Foundation (President).  My current memberships include the Alaska Peace Officers Association, Reserve Officers Association, American Legion, National Rifle Association, Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, Resource Development Council for Alaska, Alaska Support Industry Alliance, the Alaska Association of Retired State Employees and AARP.  I attend church regularly, study under Dr. Charles Stanley, exercise daily and try to moderate food consumption.

Now I want to keep giving by energetically representing our area in Juneau, if you wish. To do it, your financial support and your volunteer help with the campaign will be essential. So far, we have several dozen volunteers, scores of contributors and have raised sufficient funds to produce a mailer, and other promotions. But much more needs to be done and I can only do it with your help.

Please 'click' here to contribute or otherwise become a part of this campaign.  No effort or contribution is too small.  Lastly, this website will be dynamic! That means that I will try to keep you informed of our campaign activity and position on issues as time goes on. Please check here regularly!  And, if you want access to a wealth of gas pipeline related history and news, here's my public service gas pipeline website, initiated in 2001 and now being redesigned.

Thank you!

Dave

Thank you!

Dave
